What is Cerakote®?

Cerakote is a proprietary ceramic-based coating applied as a very thin film — roughly one mil (0.001″) — to metals, plastics, polymers and wood. It adds corrosion and wear protection without the dimensional build of most coatings, which is why it works on parts with tight tolerances.

Corrosion resistance

A dense, non-porous ceramic film that shields the substrate from salt, moisture, chemicals and abrasion — without the porosity of an oxide layer.

Impact strength

Flexible enough to take an impact without chipping or cracking, and hard enough to resist wear at the same time.

Temperature control

Withstands temperatures up to 1800°F, which puts it in range for exhaust, engine and high-heat machinery components.

Visual appeal

Over 200 finishes and colors, held to a color-consistency standard of Delta E of 1 or less — so run two matches run one.

Compliance

No heavy metals, and VOC compliant in all 50 states.

Simple maintenance

Cleans up with ordinary care, and does not detrimentally impact the fatigue properties of aluminum alloys.

How Cerakote compares

vs. anodizing

Anodizing converts the aluminum surface into an oxide layer — excellent for hardness and wear on aluminum, and we run it at our sister plant. Cerakote is a different tool: it applies to steel, plastics and polymers as well, adds color range, and does not affect fatigue properties. Pick by substrate and requirement, not by preference.

vs. powder coating

Powder builds a thicker, tougher film and is more economical over large surface areas. Cerakote goes on far thinner, so it suits parts where fit, tolerance or weight matters, and it holds up at much higher temperatures.

vs. conventional paint

Paint is the most flexible on color and cost. Cerakote outperforms it on abrasion, chemical exposure and heat, and holds color consistency far tighter across production runs.

How thick is a Cerakote finish?

Very thin — on the order of one mil (0.001 inch). That is a fraction of a typical powder coat, which is why it is used on parts where fit and tolerance matter.

What temperature can Cerakote handle?

How consistent is the color between runs?

Cerakote holds a color-consistency standard of Delta E of 1 or less, which is tighter than most coating systems. With 200+ finishes available, we can match and repeat.
